The "R" stands for "round and tight". This line is made from Peak UHMWPE fibres using a very special braiding process. Type R12, for example, consists of 300×8 = 2400 individual fibres that are braided together at a very small angle. This produces an almost circular cord cross-section with arrow-like dimples on the surface. In addition to its excellent overall properties, this "round and strong" special braid has another major advantage that many other so-called "braided" lines do not have. Namely, all STROFT GTP lines can be used to produce a self-locking spliced loop, which has a significantly higher load-bearing capacity than all other known knot connections (see also page 34 in the catalogue).
