Note:
Swimsuits are generally not designed to keep you afloat if you fall unconscious into the water. This means that if you fall unconscious, the suit will not automatically turn you onto your back to keep your head above water. For your safety, also use a life jacket with 275N buoyancy.
EN 393 / EN ISO 12402-5: 50N Buoyancy Aid
These garments provide at least 50 Newtons of buoyancy for an average adult. This level is intended for swimmers who are near shore or have access to rescue equipment. These garments have minimal bulk but are only conditionally suitable for use in disturbed water and cannot keep the user afloat for extended periods. They do not provide sufficient buoyancy to protect individuals who are unable to help themselves. They require active participation from the user.
ISO 15027-1: 2012 Class D: Cold Water Protective Suits
This standard specifies performance and safety requirements for cold water protective suits used in work and leisure activities to protect the wearer's body against the effects of immersion in cold water, such as cold shock and hypothermia. One of the requirements for certification according to the ISO 15027-1 standard is that the body temperature in 5°C water must not drop by more than 2°C after one hour. One-piece swimsuits are advantageous in terms of maintaining body temperature because the slowly penetrating water circulates poorly and is warmed by body heat, acting as an insulating layer. The Mullion North Sea I provides two hours of protection against hypothermia.
